Consulting West has been providing quality, cost effective engineering services to the Architectural community since 1983.

Our unique combination of young talent and mature professionals ensures an effective team approach to design, problem solving and project management. Our Westlake village location permits us to be extremely responsive to our clients, even on very short notice.

Our technical staff consists of skilled professionals with twenty to thirty years of experience in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Consulting West has designed over 12 million square feet of Educational, Medical, Research Laboratory and Student Housing facilities. By applying innovative technologies, we provide our clients with buildings that are able to meet the ever-changing demands of today's building systems without compromising energy efficiency or reliability.

Beckman Coulter Headquarters

Brea, CA

Consulting West joined Gensler architects to renovate the 500,000 SF world headquarters facility in Brea, CA, consisting of five different buildings, 60% administrative office space, 25% laboratories, and 15% manufacturing. Our Mechanical & Electrical Engineering designs focused on energy efficiency and sustainability, helping the project to achieve LEED-CI GOLD Certification, recognized by USGBC.

Renovations included administrative office spaces, customer service & training rooms, executive offices, a commercial kitchen, a fitness center, laboratories, manufacturing facilities, campus power substations, and central plant chillers & boilers. Total project value was nearly $50M, spanning approximately 24 months, and is onschedule for completion in May 2010.

AMGEN, Research Laboratory Building Expansion

Thousand Oaks, CA

This project was the second phase of expansion to the First Phase Formulation Development Facility. The project surrounds an existing laboratory building at Amgen’s Biotechnology Research Center. This building project included research science laboratories, a formulation development process facility expansion and an office administration and conferencing wing.

The 2-story, 38,000 square foot structure was constructed in two phases, around all 4 sides of the existing 32,000 square foot laboratory building. The existing building remained fully occupied and operational during construction with limited shutdowns for connections to new mechanical, electrical, and laboratory piping systems.

AMGEN, Compound Sample Storage Bank Facility

Thousand Oaks, CA

This Compound Sample Bank Facility designed for a world leading biotechnology research company allows automated robotic cataloging and retrieval of stored compounds for drug discovery. The system has the capacity of storing and retrieving several million different compounds in a sub-zero environment. In addition, the facility is capable of high-speed preparation and distribution management of duplicate samples.

The project included demolition of an existing cafeteria and full renovation of the 6,000 square foot project area. The scope of design also included a new mechanical room for supply air, dehumidification, and exhaust equipment systems.

UCLA, School of Dentistry Continuation Education and Student Services

Los Angeles, CA

This project required the complete demolition and renovation of approximately 6,600 square feet on the A-Level of the ten-story School of Dentistry building located on the UCLA Medical Center campus.

This project for the School of Dentistry Department of Continuing Education required the conversion of space previously housing administrative operations of Student Health Services into a state of the art teaching facility. In addition to administrative spaces, the facility includes a two-story lecture hall, dental treatment rooms equipped with pre-treatment visual imaging screens, a dental simulator-teaching laboratory and a teleconferencing room.

UCLA, School of Medicine, Neurobiology Department Laboratory Renovations

Los Angeles, CA

Seven separate yet linked projects designed for the Neurobiology Department were completed between 1996 and 1999. When completed the totality of the projects essentially renovated the majority of the 6th and 7th floors of the School of Medicine in the UCLA Center for Health Sciences.

The projects required the complete demolition and renovation of approximately 9,000 square foot of laboratory space. A Prototype Laboratory Suite was created which included a large lineal laboratory with equipment support and office on each end. The labs could be subdivided to insure future flexibility. Three sets Laboratory Suites and Departmental Administrative offices for the Chairman and his staff members were provided.

UCLA, School of Medicine, Pathology Department Laboratory Renovations

Los Angeles, CA

This Pathology Department Renovation Project for the School of Medicine in the UCLA Center for Health Sciences required the complete demolition and renovation of approximately 14,000 square-foot of laboratory space including 300 lineal feet of primary egress corridor, on the Ground floor level of the ten-story building.

The scope of work included 6 new pathology laboratories, glasswash facility, cold room, dark room and common equipment rooms. The project also included departmental administrative offices for the Chairman and his facility members.
